Her father, Edward, arranged for the three Langston brothers — Pierce, Derek, and Ethan — to pick her up, and wanted Ava to choose one of them as her husband. To steal the credit, Derek tricked Pierce into going to the airport while he and Ethan blocked the school gate. Derek accidentally bumped into Ava, shattering her bracelet. He slapped her on the spot, kicked her to the ground, grabbed her mother's keepsake pocket watch and crushed it underfoot, and stomped on her right hand. Professor Charles, who stepped in to protect her, was also severely beaten by the three brothers. Ava repeatedly stated she was the heiress of the Carter Group, but the three brothers insisted she was an impostor and escalated their violence. When Pierce arrived, he didn't believe her either — he even choked Ava by the neck and snapped her already-injured right hand. After Ava was taken to the hospital, the three brothers followed her there to keep humiliating her. Then Arthur, her personal assistant, arrived and flashed the Carter family's power ring — yet the three still refused to acknowledge her, even accusing Arthur of colluding with Ava to steal it. Meanwhile, with information provided by Charles, Ava uncovered the truth that the three brothers had been profiteering off the hospital. Later, at a banquet, Ava publicly revealed her identity, but the three brothers kept denying it — until her father Edward arrived and personally confirmed who she was, at which point the brothers fell to their knees begging for mercy. Ava exposed the Langston brothers' crimes one by one. Pierce, Derek, and Ethan were arrested on the spot. Their father, Marcus, flew into a rage, attacked Ava, and was taken into custody for attempted murder. In the end, the villains got the punishment they deserved. Ava's right hand gradually recovered with treatment, she fell in love with Charles — who had shielded her in her hour of crisis — and formally took over the Carter Group.
